Campground Evacuation Due to Long Lake Fires Issued under the direction of the Wing Commander, 14 Wing Greenwood.
Due to the continued expansion of the Long Lake fire—now less than 25 km from the campground— we issued a mandatory evacuation effective Wednesday, August 20.
This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, prioritizing the safety of our campers, staff, and community. Our goal is to ensure a safe and timely evacuation should conditions worsen. The protection of individuals and personal property, including RVs, remains our highest priority.
To all our campers, visitors, and seasonal guests—thank you for your incredible support and understanding during this evacuation. The compassion shown by so many of you—offering help to others, checking in on neighbours, and supporting the decision—has truly uplifted our team. Your kindness and community spirit are what make Greenwood Campground so special.
For those whose stays were cancelled or interrupted, please know we are working diligently to process refunds as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
We’re relieved to share that our local staff are safe, and we received exceptional support from 14 Wing Greenwood, who went above and beyond to assist with the safe removal of campground equipment. A special thank-you to everyone who helped ensure that “Ms. Pleasant,” our beloved tractor, is safe and sound at a secure location.
Most importantly, we extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters and emergency crews responding to the Long Lake fire. Your bravery, dedication, and tireless efforts are nothing short of heroic. Thank you for protecting our community and working under such challenging conditions.
From all of us at Greenwood Campground—thank you for your resilience, generosity, and continued support. We look forward to welcoming you back when it is safe to do so.
